End of Summer Homeowner Tasks that You Cannot Ignore

Homeowner tasks never seem to end, and while you may be thinking that you can finally enjoy the lazy days of summer, that couldn’t be further from the truth! This is the perfect time of the year to do a few things on your to-do list because the weather is agreeable, and you won’t need to live without something when it breaks down without warning.

Here are 6 end of summer homeowner tasks that you cannot ignore:

Check Your Heat

While you may not be ready to turn your heat on just yet, now is the perfect time to have your furnace inspected and cleaned.  This way you won’t be in the cold when the temperatures suddenly drop.

Clean Your Chimney

Along with staying warm with a furnace, many people choose to use a fireplace.  However, your fireplace and chimney need to be cleaned regularly to ensure that a fire doesn’t start from the buildup of creosote.

Check the Air Flow

Once you close up your windows for the season, you are going to want to make sure that the air is flowing inside your home properly.  We recommend checking the room fans, dryer vents, bathroom vents, and any other area that allows the air to flow where you need it the most.

Clean and Maintain Your Porch, Patio, or Deck Areas

This is the perfect time to give your porch, patio, or deck a thorough cleaning, while also checking for damage and deterioration.  A clean area will be more welcoming in the spring and repairing any damage now will ensure that it is ready to use next year when the temperatures begin to warm up.

Clean Your Gutters

Okay, we know that most people have a love/hate relationship with their gutters!  As long as everything is flowing through, you are always going to love them. That being said, when something gets stuck and they need to get cleaned, the ladder needs to come out and you are finding yourself scooping out some really disgusting stuff!  Well, this is still something that needs to be done, so if you haven’t tackled this task yet this year, either get that ladder out or call a professional to ensure that your house doesn’t get damaged from the backup of water over the winter months.

Clean Your Carpets

This is an excellent time to clean the carpets inside your home, because you can be outside during the time that they are drying.  Plus, they will dry much faster since you can have your windows open.

Don’t worry, none of these six end of summer homeowner tasks will take too long and you will still have plenty of time to enjoy those last rays of sunshine with the warmer temperatures.
